Rocco Schiavone, Deputy Chief of Police of Aosta, seems to be cranky at the best of times, particularly because he’s been transferred from his beloved Rome to the north of Italy. While the cold, wet, and snowy weather in this picturesque mountain town just doesn’t suit him, it doesn’t mean he isn’t determined to solve the case of Esther Baudo. First, he has to determine whether her death was suicide or murder. If it’s murder, staged to look like a suicide, as he thinks, he will have to figure out who had the best motive, and what really happened in her apartment on the morning of her death.

From start to finish, this is an engaging story. Manzini has his own unique talent for creating memorable visual descriptions that had me hooked from the beginning. Combine that with a well-developed plot and a clever and surprising ending, and all I wanted was to read more cases involving Rocco Schiavone. So wrap up with something warm and sit back while Schiavone tries to unravel a complex puzzle in Adam’s Rib.
