Bare Minimum Parenting: The Ultimate Guide to Not Quite Ruining Your Child

In Bare Minimum Parenting, James Breakwell is back with more parenting advice after his debut novel, Only Dead on the Inside. This time around, the comedic writer and father of four gives his input on how to do the bare minimum in parenting and still have your child(ren) end up on par with the child of the overachieving parent who will go to extreme lengths for their child. This is said most appropriately when Breakwell writes “down that road lies effort, and that’s the path to the dark side.” Another great line in this humorous novel is “laziness is the first step toward immortality.”

As a parent of two young children, I felt I could relate to this book better than other parenting books I have read. The charts, graphs, one-liners throughout the book make it an enjoyable read. I feel that I am a mix between an already bare minimum parent and the beginnings of an overachiever. However, I also feel that each family has to do what is best, and this is what works best for us. I did not agree with his answers for some of the topics, but he covered most of what’s involved in parenting.
