Harvest the Vote: How Democrats Can Win Again in Rural America

There is no disguising the fact that for a Democrat to win against Trump, or really against any other Republican candidate, they will need to win back a number of white rural voters who used to vote for the Democratic party but did not do so in 2016. This issue has been the topic of many books by Democratic party members when looking at the election and what went wrong and what can be done about it.

Jane Kleeb now joins this growing list with her latest book. She is the Chairman of the Nebraska Democratic party and so is somewhat perfectly placed to explain how to win voters back in the Midwest, something that will need to happen in 2020. However, her techniques and suggestions for how to do things, from the ground up and really listening to the rural voter, might not work everywhere. Midwestern farmers were early backers of the Populist movement during the early 20th century, but they now feel betrayed by all sides due to ongoing trade tensions with other countries and feeling like the only way to survive is to go big.

Kleeb is trying to make a name for herself on the national stage with this book and to show that one can be a Democrat and live in the Midwest.
