Hike is a wordless picture book that follows a father and child on a day they decided to go on a hike. You see them getting ready, going for a drive, getting their gear, and walking through the forest. They look for animals, overcome fear, and plant a tree to give back to the earth.

My six and three-year-old really enjoyed this book. They liked to see the adventure the father went on with the child. My son thought the child was a boy and my daughter thought it was a girl, which was clever making both see themselves in the illustration. They really enjoyed seeing the different animals the duo found.

This is a beautiful book Pete Oswald did—and excellent job with the illustrations. I love the variety he used, from small panels in the spreads to one big spread to one or two panels. The color scheme seems perfect for a calm and peaceful time of exploration. I appreciate that both my kids can see themselves in the pictures even though they are boy and girl. The book made me think of the hikes and exploration I went on with my own family as a child when we camped or rented a cabin in the woods.
