I Kissed a Girl: An LGBTQIA New Adult Book About a Rising Horror Star and the Special Effects Artist Who Makes Her Shine

I Kissed a Girl is a fresh take on WLW romance that hits all the right notes when it comes to both the quick pacing of the story and the struggle of coming out as a bisexual woman. Lilah Silver is an ex-beauty pageant B-list scream queen struggling to be taken seriously as an actress. Noa Birnbaum is an aspiring special effects makeup artist with some serious second-wave feminist judgment issues trying to find her big break. Will their behind-the-scenes chemistry leave their careers and hearts in flames or turn into the role of a lifetime? At four hundred pages long, I normally wouldn’t have picked this book up since the romance genre can be a little predictable in its twists and turns and that many pages can be a lot to slog through if the storyline is slow. But the author does not disappoint, and there is a thrilling element of danger running through the narrative arc that keeps you intrigued until the end. I found both of the main characters relatable in their desires and fears despite the Hollywood-themed plot, and it was a joy to finally see some queer Jewish representation in the genre.
