Kopi is an enjoyable and thought provoking story of environmental and social change, self realization, and love. The protagonist in this story, Kopi, is a divorced, middle-aged white American man who goes to work each and every day then returns home to his lonely Chicago apartment. His children are grown up but still keep in constant contact with their father, but as many readers will identify with, he needs something more in his life.

During his search for “something more,” Kopi comes across an online virtual world called Virtual Cosmos. It is within this world that Kopi makes new friends and possibly even a new love! Similar to many people in recent years, Kopi becomes so engrossed within the virtual world that he lacks food and sleep in his real world and so has to learn to accommodate both within his day.

Many readers will relate to this story and the characters within it, as they are so real to life. As the book progresses, you will feel concerned for Kopi and the world around him–well, for both worlds really, virtual and real. You will worry about his gullibility and how the real world around him is reacting to the rapidly changing technological advances, and you will find yourself second-guessing the characters and whether they are actually human. I guess that I should inform you that this is actually a futuristic book about the fast-paced world of technology and robotics! Not that you would guess, as it is scarily real to life in many aspects.

Rick Bohm has certainly written a fantastic story; for such a short book, it really does draw the reader in and get them thinking.
