Lock Every Door: A Novel

This is the third book I’ve read by Riley Sager and it was definitely a page turner just like the others.

Jules Larsen finds herself down and out in Manhattan. After losing her job and finding out that her boyfriend is cheating on her, she ends up on her best friend Chloe’s couch. Then, she stumbles upon a magnificent offer. Someone wants to offer her twelve thousand dollars to apartment sit in the Bartholomew building, an apartment building that only wealthy people can afford. She jumps at the chance and even though the rules seem a bit odd (no guests, don’t bother other residents, don’t be nosy), Jules is ecstatic. Until people start disappearing that is…

This book kept me guessing until the very end. With a full cast of the most interesting characters, Jules is put through the wringer as she conducts her own investigation into the disappearances and finds that her own life may be in jeopardy. The setting at the Bartholomew is unsettling yet intriguing, complete with hidden rooms, secret passageways, a dumbwaiter, and of course, a gargoyle named George. It is a must-read for fans of Sager and the thriller/suspense genre.
