Crafty kids can add a whole new level to their crafting skills by learning to sew. This book is beautifully designed, easy to use, and will give kids all the tools they will need to become proficient at sewing. The introduction starts with a comprehensive list of the materials and tools needed for sewing, from what kinds of scissors one should have (three kinds) to a quick overview of entry-level sewing machines. This is followed by overviews of fabrics, patterns, lessons on hand sewing with five basic stitches, machine sewing, and more. Every page has excellent illustrations of the various steps, and explanations that are concise and clear. There are twenty-two projects included, along with a materials list, a photograph of the finished project, and step-by-step instructions that are both written and illustrated for each. The projects are things youngsters would actually use and run the gamut from simple (scrunchies and bookmarks) to fairly sophisticated (planner cover and lined tote bags). The back matter includes patterns, a good glossary, and a conversion chart for going from inches to centimeters. This is simply the best sewing book for youngsters that is in the market. Don’t miss this.
