The first day of school can be intimidating and lonely; would it help ease your worries if you had your parents by your side? Pascaline, a strong-willed young bat refuses to leave for her first day of school. Her parents insist that she will learn new things and make great friends. Determined not to go to school, Pascaline screams “Never Not Ever” so loudly that her parents shrink into a miniscule size. With her tiny parents in tow, Pascaline willingly saunters off to school. Having her parents tucked beneath her wing, Pascaline gains confidence to introduce herself to others. However, she quickly feels hindered by her puny parents’ presence.

Pascaline gets in trouble for their disruptive behavior in the classroom, is unable to fly during recess, and becomes embarrassed by their interference during lunch. She discovers that she doesn’t need her parents to be with her every second, as long as they are there for the moments that matter. Upon this revelation, Pascaline’s parents magically return to their normal size. This book is perfect for children ages four to eight who are starting school or feel anxious when separated from their parents.
