Fiction writers of any genre have a tough job. For fiction to be good and be believed, the writer has to make sure he or she, although making up characters and story, has a lot of information factually correct. If the setting is a real place, the writer had better know all about the climate, the streets, the important buildings. Likewise, the writer needs to populate his or her book with science that is correct. How do crime scene investigators do their jobs? How do people with schizophrenia really act? If your fictional victim dies from poisoning, what is one likely to see? What atmospheres are habitable? Whether writing mysteries or fantasy or science fiction or any other genre of fiction, it’s important to get the science right in your writing.

This book is a collection of blog posts by Dan Koboldt, who has been feeding writers excellent scientific information for a long time. His writing is lively and conversational while being chock full of great scientifically-correct information. Each section is short and to the point, but at the same time extremely interesting and fun to read. Every writer should have a copy on his or her bookshelf.
