Septimania: A Novel

Malory is a gifted organ tuner left in a daze by Louiza, a fair-skinned, blonde-haired, mathematical prodigy. She teaches Malory her finding of i=u, which also equates to Malory=Louiza, and nothing is the same following that. Malory is also a scholar of Newton and has read everything there is to know about his idol of a scientist. He has spent years researching Newton, so imagine his surprise when a grandmother he never knew he had passes down a diary that will eventually reveal that he may be more closely connected to Newton than he ever could have imagined. Both this diary and Louiza take Malory to Rome and into Septimania, an entire kingdom passed on to the Jews by Charlemagne.

Weaving together old Arabian folk tales with current events and magical surrealism, Jonathan Levi has written a novel that is both a fairy tale of a kingdom and a love story. Septimania has plenty of mystery and eclectic characters. It is a tale that I suspect will allow the reader to discover new interpretations and details with each re-read.

Septimania is mythology. Septimania is history. Septimania is a folk tale. Septimania is Malory’s kingdom. And Louiza is Malory’s Destiny.
