Having not read a comic book in a few years, I picked this one as the first I would sink my teeth into, and that was a great idea. I have always been a fan of the Joker and a story that looks into his own personal history is fantastic. The story goes that the Clown Prince of Crime is not just Batman’s greatest enemy, but a major player in madness across Gotham, and the rest of the world.

Joker has always wanted to break Batman’s spirit and sanity, and in this tale he has really brought his “A” game. It starts with Joker making a friend, or whatever you could call something like that with the Joker, and how he treats that person. Then we get the beginning of Joker’s plans and an attack by the JLA in Gotham. It is up to the caped crusader to stop them, followed by six stories of what the Joker’s real history is, and where it is exactly that he comes from. As the stories progress we find out that the Joker has a new, more aggressive version of his usual Joker venom, and our hero has to find out where it comes from in order to defeat it and save the City of Gotham’s citizens who are infected.

All in all the story was fantastic and I find myself comparing it to The Killing Joke, a great Joker story that any fan of the Clown prince is going to have to pick up and read if they want a look into his ultimate scheme. Also worth a mention, the variations of art style really brought an interesting element to the graphic novel.
