Dale Brown continues his Patrick McLanahan series in The Moscow Offensive, his twenty-second book. The Moscow Offensive is likewise the third consecutive novel that deals with Russia and it’s leader, Gennady Gryzlov. In the latest novel, which takes place after the events of Price and Duty, Russia is recovering after the American-led attack cripples its defense systems. The president of Russia, Gennady Gryzlov, is furious and vows revenge. So he secretly purchases an air-freight company from a billionaire on a remote island in the Pacific. His plan is diabolical in nature and involves America’s own Cybernetic Infantry Devices, which are robotic super soldiers with immense firepower reverse-engineered by the Russians. Now with the purchase of the freight company, the Russians will smuggle these robots into America in order to do a retaliatory strike. The protagonist, Patrick McLanahan, learns of Russia’s diabolical plan and is determined to quell the threat with the help of several Eastern European states. However, the American administration doesn’t believe that the Russians are capable of mounting such a strike and therefore tries to hamper McLanahan’s efforts to keep the country safe.

Dale Brown continues the formula of his successful high-tech military thrillers with The Moscow Offensive. The plot is breathtaking and highly unpredictable, with lots of action and suspense. There are lots of characters in the book. Fortunately, Brown lists them all in the beginning, so they become easier to keep track of. The author likewise uses lots of military terms and equipment and does a good job explaining them to a layman. Patrick McLanahan is very developed and likable. Brown masterfully describes the conflict between McLanahan and the unsympathetic presidential administration, which tries to interfere in his mission in every way possible. It is clear that as a warrior, McLanahan is bound by a sense of duty and patriotism.

All in all, The Moscow Offensive is very enjoyable. If you like Tom Clancy, then you will certainly enjoy this book.
