The Ocean in Winter
Do family stories continually repeat through the generations? Are we driven in some way to create the unremitting scenarios of past lineages? In this story, three sisters were marked by the death of their mother. After this loss, they were left to manage their grief and loss as well as to try to make sense of the tragedy for each of them. Each of the sisters has followed a different life path.
Alex, the eldest, who took over raising her siblings, is now unable to have a child of her own. She returns home from India after an unlikely bequest brings her to a strange home filled with memories and ghosts. The middle sister is facing an upheaval in her home life. The youngest, Riley, travels the world as a fashion model and has divorced herself from her sisters and their unwanted support and love.
This book deals with the misunderstandings and separations that occur when life circumstances that could have made for a close-knit sibling group instead lead to distrust and the fracturing of relationships.
