The reviewer chose this book because it is a telling of the author’s past in dealing with addiction/recovery. The retelling of David’s experience in living with the ups and downs of addiction held the reviewer’s attention because it is a true account of David’s journey. The reviewer was compelled to read further with hopes David makes it through treatment and betters his life. The harsh reality of David’s struggle is described in great detail which held the reader’s attention throughout the whole book. The support of David’s family is painful for them, yet they keep David in their hearts and hope he can recover.

This book goes into graphic detail without holding back, this gave a real look into David’s struggle and it feels authentic. David hits rock bottom over and over and still finds the courage to save his own life. The various people he meets along the way are various users and fellow junkies who bring David into the darkness with him. His many experiences in rehab facilities change as David becomes more and more desperate to stop living this kind of life and finds his sanity in recovery. For someone interested in addiction and recovery this is a great book to read. The author David Poses digs deep in this book about his own life and how he pulled himself out of hell.
