Picture book author and illustrator Britta Teckentrup has delighted readers with her previous peek-through picture books, Tree and Bee. In Moon, a whole new sense is cast over the reading as each page is basked in the glow of moonlight. Reviewing picture books is always fun, and I can see how much my four-year-old likes reading them by how often he chooses to read them each night, and let me tell you, Moon was a big hit.

Each page shows a different face of the waxing and waning moon as it reaches full and then returns to the thumbnail. While the moon is at the center of every page, it is the surrounding detail that is really fascinating as the story progresses from forests and deserts to the Arctic tundra and tropical beaches. Each realm is filled with plant and animal life, forcing the eyes to search for hidden gems.

The rich tapestry of colors juxtaposed with the calming white of the moon growing and shrinking makes the book a true piece of art. The pages are thick cardstock with a solid cover that gives the book are more natural feel, making it stand out from most picture books.
