Good and Simple: Recipes to Eat Well and Thrive
It seems there are new ways of eating for great health and energy whenever we turn around. Sisters Jasmine and Melissa Hemsley introduced their own brand of healthy eating in their earlier book, The Art of Eating Well. Their ideas align with much of the paleo way of eating as they eschew grains, gluten, and most sugars and use whole, unprocessed, fresh foods.
Once one has his or her kitchen stocked properly (there is a section telling what’s needed), these 140 recipes are quite quick and simple to prepare. They are arranged in nine sections including Soups and Stews; Sandwiches and Salads; Fish and Meat; Vegetable Mains; Dips, Dressings, Sauces and Spreads; Baking, Desserts and Sweets. The recipes have fresh flavors and interesting combinations (think Kale Carbonara or Tahini Date Fudge or Chili Kraut). Good sections on planning and two weekly menus and cooking ahead will make this program much easier to accomplish. Each recipe has an introductory paragraph, specific list of ingredients, and easy-to-follow directions. Mouth-watering close-up photos of the final products populate many of the pages. The writing is clear and lively and encouraging for those hoping for a healthier lifestyle.
